On September 2, 2023, the census population consisted of 155,826 individuals. These are the people who either have been residing in Curaçao for more than one year or plan to stay for a total of more than one year. The number of people in the census population differs from the number in the population register. Not all individuals registered in the population register belong to the census population. 

This includes, for example, retirees (pensionados) who do not stay in Curaçao year-round or young students studying in the United States. The census population also includes people who are (not yet) registered, such as undocumented individuals, expats who remain registered in their home country, and people who have just settled in Curaçao.
